Contour (formerly known as VHoldR) have three helmet cameras: the Contour Roam, Contour GPS and Contour+. All of the Contour helmet cams are easy to use, lightweight and shoot full HD video and take still photos. The Contour Roam is an excellent value for money entry level camera. The Contour GPS has most of the features of the Contour Roam as well as a built-in GPS that tracks position, speed and time and bluetooth connectivity. The Contour+ is the latest Contour camera with all the features of the Contour GPS along with a wider 170 degree angle lens, microphone input and HDMI output.

Contour cameras key features

The Contour HD range of helmet cameras are known for their small, lightweight design that is less pronounced than GoPro cameras when mounted on a helmet. Contour are the market leader at introducing new technology to helmet camera design including features like GPS and bluetooth connectivity.

Sliding switch for ease of use

All the Contour HD cameras cameras including the Contour GPS and Contour+ come with a sliding start/stop switch that is easy to use even when you are wearing gloves. Ease of use is often overlook when selecting a helmet camera, however it is a very important feature. If a helmet camera is hard to use you quickly find yourself getting frustrated with it.

Full HD video recording and 5MP stills

All of the Contour cameras shoot full HD 1080p video, although the field of view is reduced in this mode (110 degrees for the Contour GPS and 125 degrees for the Contour Roam and Contour+). In addition to shooting in full HD, you have the option of shooting at 720p (at 30 or 60 frames per second) as well as 960p.

The Contour camera range also takes 5MP still photos. In the photo mode you can choose between shooting a photo every 3, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds so that your hands are free to keep you in control. You can also piece these photos from your Contour camera together into time lapse videos.

Contour Storyteller and Contour GPS

Contour have developed their own video editing and sharing software that is included with every Contour camera. The Contour Storyteller application allows you to do basic edits and share your videos with friends via the Contour website. Videos shot with the Contour GPS and Contour+ cameras will automatically display the GPS data at the same time that you watch your videos, with a Google Maps overlay of your position.

Bluetooth and Connectivity

The Contour GPS and Contour+ cameras are bluetooth enabled so that you can connect to your smartphone and use it as a viewfinder for your Contour camera. You can't play back clips over bluetooth, but you can use it see what the cameras see and line up your shots. You can also use the bluetooth connection to change the settings on both the Contour GPS and Contour+ cameras.
